commissions

Creating a commission for a client has both its delights and its necessary challenges. To make this process as smooth as possible it is worth planning early and having a dialogue that will allow questions like subject, scale, location, framing and timing to be agreed.

The nature of my practice means that paintings can sometimes take months to create, building up layers of paint to capture the very essence of a painting that makes it unique. This involves taking risk with paint and living with the creative process of rebuilding a painting and the excitement and intimacy that this brings. Large commissions need a lead time of at least 6 months (if not longer depending on scale) from having the canvas made to order to drying time, framing and hanging.

I will always work ‘in the style of’ existing paintings and within an agreed colour scheme but each commission would be a totally unique piece created especially for the client in response to a dialogue about their passions and the setting for the painting. I do not recreate existing pieces. Once a brief has been accepted a 50% non-refundable deposit is required and I will work independently until completion.
